“I am of the school of encouraging people toward their ultimate polymath identities. It is only within more recent history that people have been increasingly pressured to decide their entire lives and selves early on. This acceptance of sameness, of homogeneity, it is a sort of globalizing of our very existences, a mirroring of what is taking place in the world at large. The more we limit ourselves, the more we come into conflict with the reality that a human being inevitably transforms into many different selves throughout the span of a lifetime.”

This quote is awesome!!! The space between who I was when I thought I was done becoming me gets wider and wider, and it's so confusing... except if you look at it like this, that there are lots of yous to become, and they're as genuine as each other. Who is this genius person Legacy Russell?
ReplyDeleteOops... who I was, and who I think I am now.
ReplyDeleteYes, so confusing! For some it works, for others it might be enough to drive them mad. I know a guy who has about four different aliases as a musician, to feed his different creative ideas. But yes, it's a great reminder that whenever we have an idea, no matter how out of left-field it might seem - not to be afraid to pursue it! Or at least let ourselves be a bit curious about it! Maybe that is who we really are, and how we really grow...
DeleteLegacy - she's the girl in the photo, and works for BOMB apparently, an arts magazine... there's a link up there ^^ otherwise, Google image her she is gorgeous!
